The Omu of Okpanam Kingdom and Anioma Nation, HRH Obi Martha Dunkwu, was buried in her home town today.
It could be recalled that the Omu died yesterday on the way being referred from Asaba Specialist Hospital to St Luke Hospital, Asaba, because of the deterioration of her health.
She was buried today because she instructed that in case she gave up the ghost she should be buried within 24 hours.
Omu, was an alma mater of St Mulumba’s College, Okpanam, Delta State. On completion of her secondary education, she proceeded to the United Kingdom, to further her education.
However, she returned to Nigeria after completion of her education, having worked and spent so many years in the United Kingdom.
On returning to Nigeria, she lived in Lagos in her aunty’s place, Mrs Rosemary Nwake Nwaenie, with her second cousin, the Editor of Zion Nationale Newspaper, Chris Obiemenyego.
Obi Martha, a quintessential, intelligent and custodian of traditional history who was one of the prominent Anioma daughters and an orator per excellent later left Lagos for Benin City, where she became the Secretary of Oba in Council
She would be basically be remembered for upgrading and the modernization of Omuship stool. She added glamours to it and gave it voice and class.
