It was a celebration galore for the people of Asaba Community on
Thursday, July 27,2023 when His Excellency, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State ably represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme Officially Commissioned the Ogwa-Ukwu Ahaba built by the Executive Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government Council of the State, Hon(Dr) Kelvin Obi Ezenyeli.
In his welcome address, Ezenyeli disclosed that the initiative to re-construct the Ogwa-Ukwu Ahaba was born out of his desire for community development, infrastructural development and developmental governance, stressing that he wouldn’t have pretended not to be aware of the deplorable state of the Ogwa-Ukwu and how flooded it was whenever it rains.
He said “Ogwa-Ukwu is a central meeting place of the Asaba traditional institution, in time past, it was usually a place of reception for important dignataries in Asaba Kingdom, until the development of Asaba’s Place in 1991.”
The Chairman further explained that Ogwa-Ukwu Ahaba is a sort of parliament in Asaba traditional government and office of the Otu-Ihaza, a body akin to that of a Legislative Arm of Government.
He also emphasized that the Ogwa-Ukwu holds a very important place in the mind of every Ahaba indigene, as it is the only organ with authority subject only to the Asagba of Asaba.
It was learnt that since assumption of office, Hon Kelvin Obi Ezenyeli has brought in tremendous transformation in the Council.
The followings are the achievements of the Council boss: Redesigning, Reconstruction, Refurnishing of the Executive Complex of the Council, Construction and Furnishing of the Council’s Legislative Complex, Refurbishing of the Oshimili South Revenue Court, Restoration of Power through the repairs of the transformer and offsetting 50% of the outstanding Electricity Bill at the Ogbeogono Modern Market others are Partnering with Eco Bank Nigeria Plc to empower female petty traders at a 0% interest rate.
Empowering of youths, windows and less privileged with cash gift.
Offsetting over 50% of outstanding debts owed contractors by previous administration, providing palliatives for flood victims, Grading of roads among others.
The Chairman has Judiciously used the Council’s Finances in tangible projects that brought succour for the indigenes of the Local Government which his predeccessors could not achieve in their time.
Sequel to what Kelvin Obi Ezenyeli has unveiled in Oshimili South Local Government Council as Chairman, the people of Oshimili South Local Government Council, have thrown their supports for him and endorsed him for second term come 2024 Local Government Elections in the State.
The brilliant and vibrant Ezenyeli was born on October 1, 1984 in Asaba Delta State, to the family of Late High Chief Chike C. Ezenyeli and Late Mrs Anthonia N. Ezenyili, both from Oko Amakom Village, Oshimili South Local Government, Delta State. He had his Primary School Leaving Certificate from Regina Mundi (O.LA) Private School, Asaba. He proceeded to St Peters Junior Seminary for his Junior Secondary School Certificate. He completed his Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WAEC) from Emolga Community School in River State. He moved to the Prestigious Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State for his undergraduate Certificate/Bachelors Degree in Political Science and Public Administration where he graduated with a Second Class Upper-Division.
Also, he Graduated as the best student of Political Science and Public Administration in the year, 2008. He further proceeded to the University of Ghana for an Internet Technology Professionalisation in the year, 2009.
Hon Kelvin Obi Ezenyeli also gained admission into the University of York, United Kingdom to study Political Science and Public Administration (Msc.); and concurrently, he studied Governance and Public Policy(Msc.) In the University of Manchester, United Kingdom. He immediately had his National Youth Service Corps (2013- 2014) upon his return from the United Kingdom.
Kelvin Ezenyeli is a research scholar, with graduate background in Political Science, Public Administration, Comparative Politics, Research Methods, Democracy and Fiscal Federalism. Post-Graduate background in Democratic Governance: Public Policy and Administration, Developmental Governance, Local Governance, and paradigms in analyzing the policy process.
He has also been honoured an Alumni Distinguished Award of Excellence in 2016, from Igbinedion University Okada, Edo State. A Survey of Indices of Transparency and Accountability (UK Published), he has developed analytical, communicative and organisational skill in guiding his thought on today’s society in comparison with the past, on how social policies through deliberative governance can enhance development.
Apart from earlier engaging in various family business ventures(Chinedu & Sons investments) during and after University, Obi Kelvin Ezenyeli has been privileged to serve in various capacities at both Local and State Government Levels, this has given him an edge to identify various areas that need to be approached in enhancing various Local Governance and Democratic Good Governance.
Ezenyeli served in Delta Broadcasting Service during his National Youth Service.
(2013- 2014). He has also served as Supervisor, Special Duties and Agriculture in Oshimili South Local Government Council, Asaba, Delta State (2014-2016). He further served in a higher capacity as the Special Assistant (Special Duties) to the Former Executive Governor of Delta State; Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa (CON), under the direct supervision of the Delta State Job and Wealth Creation Chief Officer, Prof. Eric Eboh (2016-2019). In the same capacity, he served as Senior Special Assistant Youth Monitoring and Mentoring , under the supervision of Grandpa, Edward Mekwunye, Executive Assistant to the Delta State Governor (Directorate of Youth Monitoring and Mentoring, (2019-2020).
While on November 12 2022; Obi Kelvin Ezenyeli (Ph.d) having fulfilled all the requirements and passed the prescribed examinations has, by the authority of Senate, been awarded the degree of “Doctor of Philosophy, Political Science and Public Administration” by the Eminent and Prestigious Igbinedion University Okada, Edo State.
Presently, Dr. Obi Kelvin Ezenyeli is the Executive Chairman, Oshimili South Local Government Council, Delta State, having successfully emerged the winner of the March 6, 2021 Local Government Chairmanship elections, and sworn in on March 8, 2021 by the Former Governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Sen.Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa (CON).
