A 15 year Nnamdi Chidera, who is presently in a critical health condition and dying in silent because his kidney was illegally harvested by Dr Shedrach Obinna Ekeh, the owner of Joe Foundation Hospital and Maternity, situate in Iheaka, Igbo Eze South Local Government Area, Enugu State, Southeast Nigeria.
The young Chidera is the son of Mr. Nnamdi Francis, who hailed from Ekoyi Iheaka Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area, Enugu state.
ZN garnered that sometime in January 2022, Chidera who was 13 years of age then, took ill and his father brought him to Joe Foundation Hospital to seek professional and proper medical attentions to his illness. Sources confirmed to ZN that upon medical examination, Dr. Ekeh confirmed to Mr Nnamdi Francis, that his son had developed appendix and strongly recommended operation. Mr Francis acceded to Dr. Ekeh’s recommendation.
During the operation which lasted eight hours, amidst screams of agonized and excruciating pains from Chidera wafting through theatre room, Francis who could not bear the disturbing shrill voice of his son made a dash for the door of the theatre room but was forcibly restrained by the nurses on duty. However he was made to endure and hold in the pains of the agonized cries of his son.
On completion of the deadliest operation Chiderawas wheeled out unconscious.
Information revealed to ZN that Chidera spent two weeks in the hospital for recuperation, before he was discharged, having paid Hugh amount as hospital bill.
As gathered by ZN, Chidera continued to complain of chest pain regularly after being discharged, something he never did before the operation was carried out. Furthermore he could not be able to undertake to any physical and tasking activities any more.
Due to the development Chidera was taken back to Dr Ekeh, who at this unable to offer anything helpful to solve the problem.
Based on the above, Chidera, was taken to another Hospital, where it was dictated and confirmed after scan examination that Chidera’s left kidney was removed.
To be sure of the scan results, Chidera was taken four different hospitals by the father for scan examinations, they all revealed the same result, which signified that the left kidney was missing.
With the results the only natural and probable conclusion is that Dr. Ekeh illegally and without Chidera and the father’s consents and knowledge removed the left kidney of Chidera during the operation he performed on his son in violation of the provision of section 48(1) of The National Health Act 2014 and section 22 of Trafficking in Person (Prohibition) Act 2015, which prohibit and criminalize removal of human organ without first obtaining the consent of the person.”
ZN was told that on September 17th, 2024, Chidera’s father proceeded to file a complaint with the Hon. Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs and Social Development, Enugu State, who ensured that Dr. Ekeh was arrested by the Nigeria Police.
According to information received by ZN, on November 12th, 2024, Chidera’s father was invited to Enugu, by the police for a meeting with the Commissioner of Police. This had increasingly become normal. Because the Investigating Police Officer, will call them on phone to come Enugu for a meeting with the commissioner of police the following day.
Chidera’s father was surprised when he and his son were taken to Magistrate Court Enugu, where Dr Shadrach Obinna Ekeh was arraigned for practicing medicine without license.
Even in the court room when he was raising his hand to draw the attention of the magistrate, he was not given audience.
The complaint he lodged with the police was illegal removal of his son’s kidney and not practicing medicine without license. He was not cited as the nominal complainant.
However, Dr Ekeh, was granted bail and released after the charge was read to him, which he pleaded not guilty.
It’s crystal clear that Chidera’s father and his son will not get justice.
ZN investigations confirm from authoritative sources that the police compromised, because of powerful vested interests behind the scene pulling the strings.
If the former Deputy Senate President, Ekwerenmadu, can be arrested with the wife, charged to court and sentenced to jail term overseas, nothing stopped the police in Enugu from charging Dr Ekeh to court of competent jurisdiction for organ harvesting for the law to take its course, instead of pressing a wrong charge on him to enable him escape the law.
Well meaning Nigerians, the Governor of Enugu State and Human Rights Organizations have been called to look into the matter in order to make sure justice prevailed.
