Dr Sylvanus Ebigwei (OON)
The former President of Aka Ikenga and Deputy President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Dr Sylvanus Ebigwei (OON), passed on recently in his hometown, Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area, Delta State.
Before his death he was the Iyase of Okpanam and an Old Boy of St Patrick’s College, Asaba. He was popularly known as Mr Chess, because he brought the game to Nigeria.
Before joining the medical profession, he worked as an Immigration Officer in Lagos State.
Ebigwei, under AD contested the Delta North Senatorial seat in 2003, general election. Although, he lost to Late Patrick Osakwe, but gave good account of himself.
Some persons that spoke to ZN , confirmed that his death came as a surprise because some hours before his death, he attended his village’s land dispute reconciliatory meeting. They stated that his death was a great loss to the people of Okpanam and Igbo nation.
