Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has said that Community Newspapers are key to Information dissemination because of their closeness to Rural Communities and urge the Publishers to use their papers to unite Delta State.
Oborevwori gave the commendation when the Chairman of Association of Community Newspaper Publishers Of Nigeria (ACNPN), Comrade Jude Obiemenyego led members of his executives to a courtesy visit in Government House, Asaba.
He said “it is my pleasure to welcome the esteemed Publishers Of Community Newspapers in Delta to Government House, Asaba. I have looked forward to this meeting because it will give me the opportunity to formally convey my profound appreciation to you people for your contributions before, during and after the general election”.
The Governor further stressed that “indeed you have been a pillar of support since my days as the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly. I am Counting on your usual support and cooperation to propagate the policies and achievements of this administration”.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori explained that since the Community News papers are very key to the propagation of government’s development strides, because of their closeness to the grassroots, he enjoined the Publishers to be part of his administration where his doors are opened and members have access to the government.
According to the governor, Publishers of Community Newspaper should be abide by the ethics of the Journalism profession by ensuring that the rules guiding the profession were adhered to in their reportage. We have worked together before and I want to assure you that we will continue to give quality leadership to Deltans.
He urged Publishers to speak to the conscience of the people by promoting the prevailing peace, unity and love in the State.
The Governor further maintained that he would commerce project inauguration across the three Senatorial Districts in the State to mark his administration first 100days in office.
By Thursday, September, 7, 2023 we shall commerce the commissioning of projects to mark our 100days in office.
We have also set up a committee to handle the palliative, where things will be distributed across the three Senatorial Districts, the Local Government down to the wards.
Also, the Labour Movement, Christian Association of Nigeria, PFN and others will be involved and we are following the palliative model of the Covid-19 era so as to get to the people in the grassroots, Oborevwori said.
The Governor further disclosed that his administration has set up a committee to handle the impending flood even though we are praying that the flood doesn’t come but we are also preparing for it. We have informed our people living in flood prone areas to prepare to relocate.
Jude Obiemenyego in his address disclosed that the Association was at Government House to felicitate with the Governor on his successful assumption of office.
He said “on behalf of the Association, I commiserated with His Excellency, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori on the passage of his Mother-In-Law and stressed they were ready to collaborate with his administration in its drive to scale up the tempo of development in the state.
The Chairman urged the Governor to provide quality and purposeful leadership in his determination to fulfil the M.O.R.E Agenda of his administration for Deltans.
As he called for the inclusion of Journalists and beneficiaries of the palliative Programme of the State Government, he also commended the Governor for appointing their colleagues, Hon Charles Ehiedu Aniagwu as Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Sir Festus Ahon as Chief Press Secretary to His Excellency. Both personalities are strategists and unshakeable, they will assist in strengthening the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
Obiemenyego appealed to the Governor to assist the Association with a bus that would enhance their mobility, as he also solicited for the appointment of a member of the group as the Governor’s Media Aide on Community Newspapers.
