Federal College of Education Technical, Asaba on fire as fear grips the Provost of the College, Dr Anene Okeakwa as National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) invites her for issues allegedly related to corrupt practices that has damaged the image of the College before the general public.

The invitation was in connection with the forgery scandal involving Dr Ikechukwu Okonta.

The Provost, Dr Anene Okeakwa who was invited alongside the Registrar of the College, was directed to come along with the official file of Dr Ikechukwu Okonta. As at last week, the Provost and the Registrar were in Abuja to defend themselves in the matter.

ZN investigations revealed that Mr Odeh who was employed as a computer analyst, converted to a lecturer and became (HOD) before Dr. Okonta because he followed due process. Miyah David was employed as a non teaching (lab technologist under Department of Chemistry Education). He converted and became a Principal Registrar.

He further went back for higher qualification where he obtained his master’s degree. He also pushed for further conversion to become senior lecturer and Director of Degree Programme. Mrs Iyorukun was employed as instructor and later converted to a lecturer. There are evidences of conversion in their official files but in the case of Dr. Okonta, his case was different because there was no trace of evidence of conversion in his official file.

As a result the corrupt practices in the school, the college has never been powered with electricity, students read with candle light at night, take lectures and write exams under excessive heat. This is one of the major reasons why students’ enrolment has continually dwindled as staff enthusiasm has also declined.

Recently, the school gate collapsed as a result of poor construction work because instead of the Provost giving contracts to qualified engineers, she prefers given to quacks for her selfish benefits.

Those interviewed by ZN on condition of anonymity, disclosed that the College is now an Institution where all manners of immoralities take place under the watch of the Provost, Dr Anene Okeakwa and this has reduced the population of the students compared to when past Provosts were at the  helm  of affair.

They further maintained that Dr Okeakwa has lost administrative competence and focus to return the college to its lost glory, stressing that she has lost the grip and popularity to fix the College to the standard it is expected.

It was gathered that since she assumed office as a Provost, her administration has been enveloped with crisis which has denied the College of the existing peace earlier established by her predecessors.
