EARTHQUAKE IN OKPANAM
Life is precious. But in Nigeria life seems not to be of value any longer especially based on how those in authorities feel unconcerned on life threatening issues that do not directly involved them, family members or close associates .
For years now Amachai quarter in Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area, Delta State, has been in very serious danger, because of continually fast caving way of large portions of lands that have eaten deep to about one hundred feet down the earth caused by IGWOGWO STREAM. The way the gully is fast destroying the earth around that quarter, there is no doubt to say that sooner or later one will wake up to see that the entire area has descended to the bottom of the earth. And if that happened then human lives lost will run into thousands that will make history in the world’s Guinness book of records , while properties destroyed will run into billions of naira.
ZN was informed that the State and Federal governments agencies’ in charge have visited the area years back. Unfortunately, till date no action has been taken. One thought by now the area should have been declared danger or disaster zone, while the people living around the area ought to have been evacuated. The present situation of the area showed that the residents are presently in big danger and living in God,’s mercy. And ZN was not afraid to say that the two tier governments are callous and toiling with people’s lives and the world should hold the governments responsible in case of any negative thing that happened to the residents.
One wondered why the governments have refused to solved the problem but preferred spending the public funds on frivolous issues.
