Investigations conducted recently by ZN, have authoritatively confirm that the majority of the people of Delta State, do not want the present Local Government Council Chairmen to be returned back to another office tenure after the expirations of their present office tenure, which will elapse in March, 2024.
Speaking to ZN, these Delta State indigenes confirmed that Council Chairmen who are now in their second and third office tenures have nothing to offer. Allowing them to another office tenure opportunities will bring more disaster to the Local Government Areas in the State, hence bringing bad image to Gov Sheriff’s administration.
They stated further, that the Governor, should put every necessary thing into considerations to making sure non of the Chairmen were returned, because they have over stayed. However, other indigenes of the State should be give opportunities to exhibit their knowledge in the third tier governance.
They expressed their hearts to the Governor, by confirming that allowing new persons to take up the Councils’ leadership in the State, will bring in new ideas and boasts the image of the present government. Delta State needs a positive and radical change. That change must start from the third tier level because of their closeness to the people. It is a known fact by sources that these Council Chairmen have outlived their usefulness as they have nothing to offer again. Although nothing good came out of the majority of them than encouraging and sponsoring cultism. This development has contributed to insecurity. Retaining them will cause more mayhem.
The Governor according to the people should not listen to the stories of the Council Chairmen on their performance failures. It is said that, someone who wants to inherit a false property, will surely narrate a false story. They have failed. The only success they were able to make was waiting for monthly Federal allocations, which they divert into their personal coffers.
In Lagos State, you can see some positive elements of the Local Government Councils.
They organize and sponsor beneficial programs for the people. They empower people and make them undergo vocational trainings. At the Local Government Areas, agriculture and aquacultures are developed to accommodate more unemployed.
Education is said to be the key to success or victory. In Lagos State, Local Government Councils sponsor the youths to acquire knowledge in different fields, organize seminars for transporters, food vendors, do public enlightenment drive, chat with Local Government retirees, assist physically challenged, assist in primary healthcare, distribution of educational learning materials etc. But in Delta State all they do is to share the money. They even find it difficult to pay salaries of workers.
