The Delta State Government has sealed the Moon Star Hotel, located at Nwanikpa Road, Ogbeozoma Quarters , Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Area, Delta State, for Human Trafficking and Illicit Drugs.
The hotel which has been operating almost two years now was dictated to be harbouring under aged girls and boys engaged in prostitution, illicit drugs consumption and peddling.
The manager of the hotel, some staff and prostitutes were said to have been arrested by security men that came for the operation, while some of the workers and prostitutes escaped into a nearby bush.
As at the time of filing this report it was noticed that despite the sealing of the hotel the escaped staff and prostitutes still sneak into the hotel as from 6pm to carry out their nefarious businesses till late night. And at day time you see them loitering around the nearby buildings seeking for customers that will take them out of the vicinity for sexual activity.
Residents of the area have commended the action of the State Government, but still insist that the Government should extend such raiding to other hotels in the State where such criminal activities were being carried out.
Since the inception of Moon Star Hotel, it was noticed that criminal activities have increased immensely in the area.
Meanwhile the government has been called to make sure that those arrested should be made to face the law to serve as a lesson to others who engaged in such criminal activities.
The residents also used the opportunity to appeal to the Governor of Delta State to come to their aid by tarring Nwanikpa Road, which was the former Asaba/ Okpanam / Issele Azagba Old Road.
The road has been eaten up by gully erosion which has made it impassable for vehicles and pedestrians.
If the road were tarred it will make it easier for vehicular movements to Asaba, Okpanam, Issele Azagba, Ubulu Okiti, Issele Uku, without accessing the present express road to the aforementioned areas.
Previous Governments have visited the road for assessments but why action has not been taken on the road remained a puzzled beyond the eyes.
