The Delta State branch of the Civil Liberties Organization, has condemned the activities of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, which is the apex body of the Igbo Nation.
The Organization, which is a Human Rights Group, through which other Rights groups emanated from in Nigeria, in a State meeting held in Asaba, Delta State capital, was disappointed in the criminal activities of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, which has brought the Igbo apex body to caricature.
The organization noted with serious dismay the recent call by the acting National Youth Leader of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu, soliciting for the termination of the fraudulent case against the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Ministry, Betty Edu. The Youth Leader in his publicized statement was expressing that the Minister should be given a soft landing on an alleged crime of such magnitude.
The Rights Organization, said, the group was infuriated that such statement should come from a representative of a respectable Organization like Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide.
The Rights Group has called on the National President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyawu, who took over the carcass of the Organization due the death of the former President, Professor Obiozor, to call the Youth Leader, who usually capitalizes on issues to make quick money for himself to order to avoid further embarrassments to Ohanaeze Ndigbo. Although, a member of the apex body has earlier condemned the statement issued by the Youth Leader, but the Rights Group insisted that Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, who is the President and the one that appointed Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu, the acting Youth Leader, must on behalf of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, issue a statement condemning the Youth Leader’s action.

The Rights Group, said why it was necessary that Chief Iwuanyawu, on behalf of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, disassociate from the Youth Leader, was because the Youth Leader and some criminal cartel in the Organization , has been using the Organization as a goal digger to allegedly swindled the public.
During the 2023 general election, the Youth Leader with some corrupt youth members of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, stormed Asaba, where they collected over Fifteen Million Naira (N15M), from Ifeanyi Okowa, under the pretence of going to support his candidature with Alhaji Abubakkar Atiku against President Ahmed Tinubu.
Same ring team proceeded to Lagos, where they collected millions of naira from the State Government and some Igbo Organizations in Lagos, after making pronouncements of going to make Igbos living in Lagos to support Gov Sanwo Olu’s candidature. From Lagos they proceeded to River State, where they collaborated with some members of the parent body to defraud Nyesom Wike, the sum of Three Hundred Thousand US Dollars ($300,000), under the pretence of going to organize lgbos living in River State to support his PDP governorship candidate.
They did not end there, they also collected millions of naira, from Emmanuel Umahia, under the pretence that they were going to reinstate the former Youth Leader, Damian Okafor,(Umahia’s anointed candidate) who was impeached for alleged corrupt practices. They also promised to support Umahia’s presidential ambition against President Ahmed Tinubu.
In another development the Rights Group, has called on the Delta State Governor to be up and doing. The group advised him to carry everybody along in governance without applying political, ethnicity and religion.
Furthermore, he was told to extend olive branch to members of other political parties to avoid distractions.
The group never failed to notify him of praise singers that are prowling his government. He was told to be careful with them as they are only known as Any Government In Power.
The group made it clear that while they will not fail to support the good work of the government, they will never also fail to expose any bad deeds of the government. They wished the governor success in his endeavor.
