The commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Delta State Command Mr Agboola Suleiman Jimoh has promised to partner with Publishers of Community Newspaper in the state.
Suleiman Agboola Jimoh disclosed this when he played host to the executives of the Association of Community Newspaper Publishers of Nigeria (ACNPN), Delta State Council on a courtesy visit in his office Asaba led by the Chairman, Comrade Jude Obiemenyego.
He said, Community media has given more sense of belonging to grassroots dwellers as part of its responsibility through the exchange of vital information that attracts growth and development within the localities.
According to the Commandant, the core mandate of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps is to arrest without a warrant, detain, investigate and institute legal proceedings by or in the name of the Attorney General of the federation in accordance with the provision of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria against any person who is reasonably suspected to have committed an offence under the act of involved in any criminal activities.
Suleiman Jimoh Further stressed that peace and order, crisis management, information gathering, critical national assets and infrastructure, private guard monitoring, armed squad and protection of schools and education facilities are functions of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp
He said “registration of private guard companies was recommended by the minister. We supervise and monitor the activities of all private guard companies and keep a register for that purpose Inspect the premises of private guard companies, their training facilitates and approve same if it is standard”.
He equally maintained that the command also checkmates the menace of kidnapping of school children in the country, stops any kind of threat or breach of security in all educational institution.
The Chairman, Comrade Jude Obiemenyego in his address, revealed that the Association will work with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in actualizing good policies that will bring growth and development to the Corps.
Obiemenyego maintained that the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps needs the Community Newspaper to function credibly in carrying their duties effectively.
