Delta: Community Newspaper Publishers Condemn Adjustment of Petroleum Meters

Community Newspaper Publishers under the aegis of Association of Community Newspapers Publishers of Nigeria (ACNPN), Delta State Council has condemned the adjustment of Petroleum Meters by some filling station s in the State.
Speaking to journalists shortly after paying unscheduled visit to some petrol stations in the following towns:Asaba, Agbor, Ughelli, Sapele, Ibusa, Warri, Kwali, Okpanam and Ogwashi-Uku, the Chairman, Comrade Jude Obiemenyego said the act is criminal, stressing that Community Newspaper Publishers will soon release the names of the petrol stations.
He said “We will soon release the names of the petrol stations to the downstream sector regulating body of Nigerian Petroleum Industry to shutdown petrol stations that are involved in manipulating their meters to exploit consumers of the
product.”
Obiemenyego further maintained that the sharp practices in the downstream sector of the Nigerian Petroleum Industry should be looked into and sanction erring petrol stations perpetrating the criminal acts.
The Chairman of Association of Community Newspapers also called on the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria to ensure that filling stations comply with the accurate metering system.
According to Comrade Jude Obiemenyego, over 30 of its members conducted the investigations on the alleged meter manipulation by the filling station owners across the state.
In all the filling stations visited,Jude Obiemenyego revealed that majority of the stations had no accurate metering system which includes the major distributing stations, adding that the body will continue to expose illegal activities in the oil sector of the economy.
