Ovie Omo Agege : Of Thuggery, Toiling And Planned Destruction Of APC In Delta State
The immediate past Deputy Senate President and a Governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress in Delta state in the 2023 general election, Ovie Omo Agege, with his character could not be rated above street boys.
Before becoming the governorship candidate of the APC in Delta state, he was an ex- convict in the United States of America and a thug that later turn a mess snatcher. He was also alleged to had assisted a two time Governor of Delta state and ex -convict, James Onanefe Ibori, in money laundering.
Omo Agege, who became the Governorship candidate of the APC, from the back door was one of the major reasons why APC failed woefully in Delta State, in the 2023 general election.
Irrespective of election rigging in some quarters in Nigeria, elections still required quality and popular candiates to be presented. Because you can not rig an election where the candidate was not popular. That was the case of APC in Delta State.
The party started losing the election the very day Omo Agege was handed over the party structure in Delta State and made the standard bearer for the Gubernatorial race.
Because of the overzealous and hunger for power by him the party at the national level thought he was popular in Delta State but never new he was not popular but notorious.
It is said you can’t eat your cake and have it at the same time.
The man who turned APC in Delta State into his personal property, was thought a lesson of his life by Deltans when the day of reckoning came.
This defective party structures set up by him from the wards to the State levels in Delta nailed his coffin.
It could be recalled that as soon he hijacked the State party structures, he jettisoned the structures he met on ground only to be replaced with his errand office boys and close associates who had no electoral values and that of Peter Nwaoboshi’s.
Omo Agege, a man well known for treachery and using people to achieve his personal interest and dumping them could also be remembered for using Great Ogboru, to get to the top of his political structure and abandoned him.
He could also be remembered for abandoning Late Sani Abacha’s strong man, retired Major Al Mustapha, who introduced him to James Ibori, only to turn his back at Mustapha, when he was incarcerated for years. Mustapha, while in prison was alleged to had requested from Omo Agege, some money to pay his children’s school fees but to be refunded immediately he was released from detention, from the day the request was made, Omo Agege stopped communicating with Mustapha. Same he has done to some APC heavyweight who assisted him financially and in manpower. He has severe relationship with them.
During the presidential primary election, he worked for his colleagues and the then Senate President, Ahmed Lawal, only to turn to Ahmed Tinubu, because he had no option.
During the Gubernatorial election he refused to release funds and physical materials for the election thinking to access power from the back door being his stock in trade.
Information from sources said he got over N3billion from Tinubu for the gubernatorial election and unspecific amount and materials for the Presidential election which he didn’t release for the election.
For the APC to make any positive way in Delta State, the party structures should totally be jettisoned and removed from him to avoid another colossal defeated in the State in 2027.
In a recent APC stakeholders meeting held in Asaba, which the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo and other powerful top APC leaders in the State attended, Omo Agege’s plans to destabilize the meeting with some few paid political area boys was met with strong resistance.
