The 2023 presidential election has come and gone, sadness and joy still range in political groups, same extend to ethnic groups.
At the lead, are the Igbos across the River Niger. They have continued to encourage ethnic and political hatred at the president-elect, Ahmed Bola Tinubu for just no cause.
During the election the Igbos who believed it was their turn to produce the president of the country at the end of the office tenure of President Muhammadu Buhari, supported the candidate of the Labour Party and two time governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi. He lost the election but showed a good account of himself, having changed the face of Nigeria politics. No doubt to say that if not because of Peter Obi, the candidate of PDP, Abubakkar Atiku would have won the election. But the Igbos believed that Peter Obi was rift of his victory through rigging by the INEC, who supported the APC candidate and winner of the election, Ahmed Tinubu.
However, the Igbos have continued to show their hatred on Tinubu whom they believed used his money to buy the victory. They furthr believed that Tinubu was behind the physical attacks and sometimes killing of innocent Igbo citizens residing in Lagos State.
Another reason was that in as much that there was a powershift to the south, Tinubu should have stepped down for Peter Obi, and whom they deemed to be a better candidate. But the Igbos did not know that power is not given but taken or grabbed.
As we are not trying to support Tinubu, our findings revealed that the Igbos were not prepared for presidency.
One of our findings revealed that the Igbos who were supposed to back Peter Obi and defend their votes, majority of their leaders were going behind to collect huge sums of money as bribes from Peter Obi’s opponents.
For instance, the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, which was the major mouthpiece of the Igbos instead of doing the needful for Peter Obi, were secretly collecting money endorsing the opponents of Peter Obi. They were only with Peter Obi at day time, at night they support his opponents.
The Igbos have been advised to redirect their hatred and anger to the leaders that traded with Peter Obi’s chances.
It is a known fact that when it comes to a game of money, the Igbos cannot be trusted, because they can do anything for money.
What they should be doing now that the election is over, is to go back and rebuild for the 2031 presidential election. If they failed to do so, and continue their quest for money, the election will come and power will go back to the North.
Tinubu did not win the election because he was a better candidate, but he had started laying the foundations for the presidency years back.
