DOING THOSE LITTLE THINGS THAT BRINGS GREATER RESULTS

The process of growth generally begins with very insignificant thing. A seed is very little but when planted can yield much when grown. Jesus uses the parable of the mustard seed and the yeast to buttress the point that things start from the little and humble way. Our spiritual, moral, ethical and salvation journey must begin from this little way and then grow into the bigger things God has designed for us.

For the mustard seed as described by Jesus is the smallest of the seed, but when sown or planted in the ground, it brings the biggest branches and shrubs that all the birds of the air can shelter in its branches. In the same likeness, the yeast that leavens the dough is highly insignificant and small but it could effect the rise and blossom of the dough.

By so doing , we are brought and thought the reality of our existence. That to bear fruits and to blossom in life, we need to begin with the little things we do.

Saint Paul even reminds us in the first reading that we have been created with so much potentials in us. But we are waiting in hope and because we have the first fruits of the spirit in us. So we can endure any thing, suffering, discomforts of all kind since we are waiting in hope with eager longing for the revealing of the son of God.

So also our little acts of goodness, charity, love, penance, prayers, and even mortification must never be jettisoned on any pretext at all. We are called to continue doing those little things we do for the good of the other persons, for the growth of our faith, for the betterment of our society, for the glory and honour of God.

It is those little things that will ultimately bring about the big fruits that will happen today. For example, Jesus began his public ministry in the little humble way with twelve disciples and very scanty followers. But today, Christianity has enveloped the world with billions of followers who are dedicated and adherents to the faith.

What are the little things you are doing or what are the little things you must do today for a greater and bigger tomorrow? The charity you give to the destitute, the small acts of prayers you engage in, the mortification you do, the masses you attend from one day a week to three days a week until now that you have grown to give it all to God. Begin something, and allow it to grow into bigger things. This is the mustard seed that you must plant to grow.

Heavenly Father, Inspire in us O Lord, those little acts of love, togetherness, compassion, piety and generosity. Grant that we may grow to greater heights and reap the rewards of our labour. Sustain us in these acts, and may we never be weary, tired or overcomes by burdens and laxity. Bless our day and bless the works of our hands today and always as you bring us to the end of the month of October through Christ Jesus our Lord.
