1 Peter 1:10-16
Mark 10:28-31
AWAITING THE GREAT REWARDS OF OUR STEWARDSHIP
There is enough rewards for those who follow, walk and live in the spirit of Christ and act according to the instructions of Christ. The assurance of this reward is being communicated to us in the gospel of today.
Every human being will always expect this kind of reward, that after labour comes enjoyment. So, it was proper for Peter to have asked Jesus after being taught the tough and difficult mission of following Christ, what their reward will be.
For before now, Jesus had been teaching them the demands of apostleship, the hard reality of being his followers and how they will be required to renounce all things, live austere life, make different sacrifices, abandon themselves into his providence and work earnestly for his glory.
So, Jesus’ teaching on the rewards awaiting faithful stewardship is expected and welcomed. For no one works without hope of gaining something meaningful.
So for those who have made sacrifices, by abandoning family life, career in life, giving up their wills, desires and aspirations and taking up the way of the Lord, living in poverty, following the master even to suffering, there awaits them full reward that no eye have seen and rewards that satisfies and encourages.
Knowing that great rewards await us, let us never give up but make concerted effort never to fail in our calling.
Heavenly Father, we are blessed to have been called into your fold, into this life of glory, a life of peace. We beg you to help us maintain and grow our relationship with you. May we always be assured of your divine blessings, protection and eternal happiness. Guide us and bless our lives and the works of our hands through Christ Jesus our Lord.
