The Eastherners, lgbos across the River Niger should stop complaining and own up that they caused the problem Nigeria as a nation is facing presently. They destroyed the country, hence bringing us to the crawling situation we have found ourselves today. The colonial masters have their own blames of amalgamating the country and handing over the nation while departing, to the northerners who were less exposed comparing to the Southern part of the country. However, no matter the fault of the colonial masters and the northerners who capitalized on their grip of the country to marginalize other peoples of the country, the lgbos, have the largest chunks of the blames.
The lgbos had the opportunity of being the first to control the full administration of Nigeria, while being in charged, instead of doing the right thing they brought in sentiment which has backfired. And the result and after effects are what the entire Southerners are suffering now, but the Eastherners are suffering it most.
It could be recalled that it was an lgbo man, who was one time President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Professor Ben Nwabueze, that drafted the country’s constitution that removed the powers from the regions and handed it to the Central Government, now addressed as Federal Government because General Aguiyi lronsi an lgbo man was the Head of State, presently addressed as President. Today, the lgbos are shouting restructuring which their kinsman helped to destroy. It is said that what goes round turns around.
It was on record that when Alhaji Tafawa Belewa was the Prime Minister of Nigeria, the lgbos held sway but failed to utilize the opportunity to do the right thing. For instance, under that administration, the Chief of Army Staff was an Igbo man, while the Chief of Naval Staff was also an lgbo man. Furthermore, the lnspector General of Police, Internal Affairs Minister(now addressed as Minister of Interior ), Minister of Education, were all Igbos. In addition the Parliament President(now NASS), Vice Chancellors of Universities of Ibadan and Lagos, were Igbos. To buttress the facts, out of the Senior Officers in Nigeria then, lgbos had 37 officers, West (Yorubas)had 10 officers and North had 8 officers.
