The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Ahmed Tinubu, has appointed a former Delta State Commissioner for Youths, Sports and Culture, prominent and popular politician cum business magnet, Dr Nonyelim, Austin Izagbo into the boards of Benin- Owena Developments Authority and Niger Delta Basin Developments Authority, as Executive Directors of Planning and Design, and Engineering respectively.
Izagbo, who is the Ide of Ibusa Kingdom, Delta State, attended St Anthony’s College, Ubulu Uku, Delta State, where he proceeded to Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife (former University of Ife), where he got his first degree in Political Science. He founded the popular Scala Club in the University, which engaged in beauty pageant competition in Nigeria.
Izagbo, a Commissioner for Sports and Social Development in the late Ibrahim Kefas administration of Delta state in the mid-1990s, superintended the construction of the Asaba land mark, Asaba Arcade, the Ibusa land mark Ibrahim Kefas Centre just as he constructed the top-class Hockey Pitch inside the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba. He was once President, Nigerian Hockey Federation (NHF).
He stamped his giant footprints in the political terrain long ago; he contested for the post of Chairman, Liberal Convention Party in the late 1980s, losing to Tom Ikimi, and became Chairman of National Republican Convention, Delta State Chapter by the early 1990s. He contested the election that kicked in the Fourth Republic as Deputy Governorship candidate in league with Dr. Kraggar under the All Peoples Party (APP) but the team lost to the Chief James Ibori and Benjamin Elue Peoples Democratic Party joint-ticket. He was one of the founders of ACD in Delta State, that transformed into APC .
Furthermore, he was the Chairman of the Delta State APC Reconciliation Committee.
During the 2023 general election, he was the Chairman, Election Campaign Committee, Delta North.
Izagbo, who holds a Ph.D degree in Public Leadership and Governance, was the President General of Ibusa Community Development Union Worldwide.
He worked in Punch Newspaper, where he rose to the General Manager’s position. He is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Caniz Company Limited.
In 2015, the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, over-paid him by N75 million (and that is no mis-print), which he returned back to the Agency. For this singular act he was recently honoured with an award of Man of Intergrity and Excellent by the Media industry.
Izagbo, who also engage in philanthropic work has written many books.
