Recently there have been outbursts from some groups and individuals from certain quarters in Delta State, against the the recent arrest of the former governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. This attitude began to make any reasonable creature to begin to think whether those behind such behavior were still with their right senses.
How on earth can an alleged criminal or one involved in the mismanagement of public funds be arrested after putting the State into financial comatose and a group or person will come out openly just because they are gaining favour from the culprit to criticize the arrest? That was madness of the highest order.
Based on the development what the Urhobo Progressive Union and other sectors that came out to support the criminality of Okowa were all about was to systematically show they were beneficiaries or profiteers of Okowa’s stealing sprees. Even Okowa, himself while addressing some sections of the public after being released from detention admitted he was not a Saint, confirming his involvement in the mis- management of Delta public funds but not up to the amount he was being accused.
One thought by now Urhobo Progressive Union ought to had been dissolve for the utterances of their inconsequential and people without integrity they parade as their leaders.
How could it be imagined that a group wouldl wake up to visit a man who was accused of stealing the Commonwealth of a State immediately after being released from detention under the pretence of coming to thank him for making it possible for their son to become the governor of State. What an irony of an organization led by people without honour and fronted by deceitful creatures.
Deltans and people with their right senses can not deny having knowledge of how Okowa mismanaged the resources of the State, both the ones that came from the Federal Government and the ones generated in the State. Some voices coming out to claim he is being victimized politically does not hold water.
Okowa, should be brought before the law to render the account of his eight years stewardship as the governor of Delta State. And if found wanting, should be punished accordingly to serve as deterrent to others in charge of public office and using it to enrich themselves.
