The Chairman of Ika South Local Government, Engr. Jerry Ehiwarior, has appealed to Agbornigidi Group in Abuja to continue to identify with issues and projects related to the growth and development of Agbor Kingdom.
He made the remark while receiving a delegation of the group in his office.
The Chairman, who said he was very appreciative of the gesture, charged other community groups to emulate the initiative.
“I am not surprised that Agbornigidi has found it important to support the education of our younger ones. This is because many of you attained your various enviable status due to the formal education you acquired. I am aware that some of you did not receive the best support and environment while in school. Some, too, may have studied using kerosene lanterns. Yet, in the face of these challenges, you excelled. It is sad that despite the encouragement available to the current generation, majority are not ready to latch on the opportunity. I am disturbed that if the situation did not reverse, we may have a distorted future as education remains the key to a progressive society,” he said.
Engr. Ehiwarior added that his administration would partner the group with a view to attracting programmes and policies beneficial to Ika South Local Government Area.
“I must say this quickly: that you returned to your roots to do this is an indication of the attachment you have with your roots. I have heard what Agbornigidi has been doing for our community. You may not be appreciated enough, but be rest assured that posterity will be kind to you all”, the Chairman said.
Earlier, Mr. Festus Aigbe, said the delegation was in his office for two reasons.
“Mr. Chairman, Christian Onyemaka and I were sent here to congratulate you on your emergence as our Council Chairman. We are also here to inform you that the Abuja Chapter of Agbornigidi is presenting over 20,000 notebooks to public secondary schools in Agbor. We started the distribution this morning.
“This exercise has become one of our annual events. It is a way of contributing to the education of our people, especially the indigent students. We are well aware of the challenges confronting our people and we are very ready to partner with your administration to ensure a better community”, Mr. Aigbe assured.
Agbornigidi is one of the supportive community groups in Agbor Kingdom with branches in major towns and cities.
