Reports have it that numerous corrupt practices have been uncovered in Delta State school of Midwifery, Okpanam, in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State.
The school which is supposed to be centre for health education, have been turned by principal of the school, some government appointees and Commissioner for Health, Dr Mordi Ononye, to be centre for extortion of all kinds.
Dr. Ononye and others were fingered in the corrupt practices marring the school presently for their selfish monetary gain.
Applicants who sat for the entrance examination in the school were directed by the leadership of the school to pay N296,000 cash to the personal secretary to the principal of the school without official receipt backing the payment.
Apart from the N296,000, another N57,000 was paid into Zenith bank account 1015649624 by each of the applicants seeking for admission, which the school authority termed as official registration fee.
The principal and his accomplices in crime have a dubious means of communicating to the applicants through text messages to their phones that they have been admitted into the School of Midwifery.
On arrival to the school, the authority will inform them to pay the aforementioned amount before admission letter will be given to them.
This ugly trend in the school of Midwifery is described as a huge fraud and total extortion from the intending students by the Commissioner for Health and principal of the School.
Observers have condemned the payment of N296,000 and the fraudulent act of the principal who is acting on the directives some government appointees and Commissioner for Health.
The image of the school before the public is gradually being destroyed sequel to the massive frauds uncovered in the school.
In a situation where payment is made in an institution without documentation of receipt, shows that the process is fraudulent and those involved should be investigated.
This is not the first time the school is appearing in the news for fraudulent activities. Years ago, ZN reported a case of extortion of N250,000 collected from intending students before admission was given to them. Those who failed to provide the money, were unable to get admission.
Investigations revealed that the principal of the school has amassed wealth through fraudulent proceeds.
Efforts made by ZN to get the principal’s and Dr Ononye’s side of the story, claimed abortive, but a close source in the ministry of Health disclosed that he is not 100% sure of the allegation levelled against the Commissioner, Ononye Mordi. Though, as the Commissioner, he may have an idea of what is transpiring in the school of Midwifery.
