WEDNESDAY OF THE FOURTH WEEK OF LENT B
Isaiah 49:8-15
John 5:17-30
SURRENDER YOUR LIFE TO GOD
In the event of the accusation that he makes himself equal to the Father, that he is supposing that he had same nature, same powers and same authority with God, Jesus defends himself in the gospel stating that indeed, all his actions are done with the permission and in consonant with God the Father. That he is indeed one with God.
His oneness and unity with God cannot be questioned. He is intimately bound with God because as the Father works, so he does also. He cannot stop working and he cannot but work because what he sees the Father doing is what he does also.
Again, his work is to do the will of the Father and carry on the injunctions of God’s commands. That this must be clear in the mind of all Jews that he and the Father are one, indivisible and in harmony.
The bond holding Jesus and the Father is one of trust, dependance and total commitment. He cannot be separated from the Father. He works as the Father works, he acts from the Father. His whole life is a total commitment to the ordinances and desires of the Father. He is inseparable bound to the Father.
And the first reading from the prophet Isaiah recalls for us the intentions of God over us all. That we are created to be one with God and God holds us in great esteem that nothings happens to us without God knowledge. God knows us, keeps us in his care and takes care of us.
So our lenten observances should be to keep doing the will of God and strive earnestly to conform ourselves to be in harmony with God’s will and living in unity as Jesus is with God. That should be our earnest desire and commitment in this period of lent, to surrender all to Jesus and to God.
Heavenly Father, we know your plan for us is for general and total wellbeing and good life. Grant that we may continue to accomplish your plans in our life. Watch over us always, deliver us from all harms, sins and iniquity. Keep us in your care and guide us in our struggles to be one with you and to do your will always through Jesus Christ our Lord.
