Many Civil Servants have a career path & their jobs in many cases can be seen as jobs for life. Their wages are not a living wage and usually below their commercial Counterparts, but many have benefits & allowances not accrued to the private sector.
The Civil service is a shell of what it used to be, most Civil Servants are not part of the list of Ungrateful Nigerians as they Contribute to the Commonwealth, firstly through their employment for the state and 2ndly through their taxes which are deducted at source by PAYE. We honour, appreciate & thank them for their Duty.
Civil Servants pay into Pension pots that ought to be ring-fenced for their retirements only to find it empty having been ransacked by Successive Executhieve Govrs.
This is a very critical dilemma, many have had the worth of their pensions withered away by inflation. This may have led many to Illigality of bribes & corruption to build nest eggs for their retirement. Some of that Stealing has been Grossly excessive & done in conspiracies with the Executive, Suppliers, Contractors.& Tax payer end users
These Corrupt Civil Servants form a Phalanx of Evil Servants Masquerading as Civil Servants, they include those who go to office everyday with nothing to do but watch Nollywood when there is Power. The ones that sit on your file unless you give them bribes, the ones that take your initiatives and pass them as their own, the ones who collude to padd budgets with Needless Items that go straight to their bank accounts.
The ones who collect Govt Levies & Taxes but pay a Fraction into Govt Coffers. The ones who covert & share Govt Allocations to themselves We can go on & on the list is endless. Projects that don’t exist are authorised as being verified & complete for payment.
Truth be told two wrongs don’t make a right at some point we must address these evils and there is no better time than now. _Our Civil Service is Bloated, Inefficient, Institutionally Corrupt & as such is not fit for purpose_ . Most Criminality within the Civil Service goes Unchecked, Unreported and Unpunished.
Civil Service Reforms are Urgent & Necessary, we expect to see massive Reforms of the Civil Service by this Tinubu led APC Fed Govt. You can bet the Leaders of NLC/TUC will actively Lament Protest and Agitate against any Reforms that are in the best interest of Nigeria, that is their calling Card to be anti reform.
