MONDAY OF THE SECOND WEEK OF LENT B
Daniel 9:4-10
Luke 6:36-38
WHAT YOU GIVE IS WHAT YOU GET
The readings of today points to the consequences of living either good life or evil life. The rewards of virtues that Christians try to uphold and live has so much advantage for man. This teaching makes allusion to the fact that the amount and quality of what we live out or give to other is same amount of what we get at the end of the day.
In the first reading the prophet Daniel gives to us the attributes associated with God as compared to those associated with man. Man is full of stubbornness, disobedience, wickedness and evil intentions. And because of these, misfortune, corruption, irreligious are seen in man. For the fruits man bears brings him those sorrowful fruits too.
But when compared with God, we observe that God is merciful, forgiving, and filled with righteousness and goodness. To have all these virtues makes our God good and holy.
In the gospel, Jesus urges us to live and imitate our God who is kind, virtuous, forgiving and merciful. In imitation of Jesus who is merciful, forgiving to all, never condemning or being judgemental, we will be visited and experience same from God our Father. So, mercy shown to other will be the same mercy God will show to you. And when you forgive others their sins, God will grant the same forgiveness to all your sins. It goes on to giving to other that even our generosity to others who are in need, such goodness and benevolence will equally be given you but this time in great measure beyond your expectations.
Jesus teaches us that what we give as well as the amount we give will be the same amount that will be given to us. What we give will even be doubled or tripled and given back to us.
This golden rule surely will give us the reasons to begin showing love, forgiveness, peace and happiness to others around us. For when we do such, we will receive in great measure all that is good over and above what we have given.
God our Father, help us to appreciate your love, providence and mercy and to reciprocate such in our lives. Grant us the disposition to be merciful, to forgive and never remember hurts, but rather to love and live in love and to please you in all things. Grant us life, peace, progress, divine protections and favours in this new week and renew us in spirit through Christ our Lord
