Following the restiveness in Ogidigben community in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, the Commissioner for Lands and Surveys in the State, Hon. (Barr.) Kate Chiwendu Onianwa has blasted Shell Development Company for being responsible for the suffering of the inhabitants of the community.
Onianwa disclosed this alongside her colleague in the Oil and Gas, Prince Emmanuel Amgbaduba at a meeting with officials of shell in her office, Asaba.
According to the Commissioner for Lands and Surveys, the community stopped the oil company from operating in the area for some period because of the level of exploitation.
She stated “You cannot be making such huge amount of money from the community yet they remain in abject poverty, this is not fair”.
Kate Onianwa however, stressed that the Shell Petroleum Development Company should carry out a survey of what the people needed from the company to end the restiveness and bring peace to the country.
Sources revealed that since the crisis, the oil company had lost over 27 barrels of oil on daily basis that has led to short fall in their revenue.
